What is Pre-Op Medical Clearance for Surgery?
Pre-operative medical clearance is a comprehensive evaluation process aimed at assessing a patient’s fitness for surgery and general anesthesia. This step is crucial to ensure that the patient is in the best possible condition to safely undergo a surgical procedure and recover from it. A clearance letter lets your surgeon know that you have been properly evaluated and are cleared for surgery.
Items Required for Pre-Op Clearance Evaluation
Although some of the specifics can vary, you generally need to provide TMG with the following information in order to receive a pre-op clearance:
A photo of yourself showing your height, weight, heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation rate
- Complete blood count (CBC)
- Complete metabolic profile (CMP)
- Prothrombin time (PT)
- International normalized ratio (INR)
- A list of your current medications (prescription and over-the-counter)
As you can see, most of the items on this list are laboratory tests. If your surgeon hasn’t provided orders for these tests, we can. You can take those orders to any lab testing center such as Labcorp or Quest Diagnostics to have the test performed. When you have your results, simply send them to us at TMG. When we have everything we need, we will schedule your telehealth visit.
